Gigi Hadid has taken it twice in the same week (and we are in love)
Nuala Phillips - @Nuala_Phillips - There was a time when going out with a big bag was accepted (Kate Bosworth joked on her Instagram about going through a red carpet with a tote bag). Then came the moment of the clutch and today we live in a miscellany, handbags of vintage dye and, now also of what promises to be the great protagonist of 2018: the box-bag (or purse box).
If you first surprised us with the 'portable safe' version of patent leather, today it does so with an even smaller variant through this tiny metallic polyhedron that reminds us in a way of those milk cartons that Chanel launched in 2014. But are we facing an authentic trend? Everything points to yes because, after all, the mere fact that Gigi takes it is enough reason for something to transcend and, second and most important, the bag-boxes have been stalking us for longer and with more insistence of what we think, so it's not crazy to say that 2018 will finally be your moment. As Devil Wears Zara says: "When a trend on the web of Amancio you see hanging ... put your visa to warm up."
And we have heated it. Because if Zara already have versions that imitate marble, include glitter, polka dots and even stuffed animals; in Uterqüe they have been squeezing the rigid version of the handbag in all its versions for several seasons (from natural materials such as wood in its most arty expression, to designs in patent leather or snake skin for a more sophisticated and classic volume). However, the truth is that all the modifications and styles that this accessory accepts make the number of brands that have their own interpretation incalculable: from Mango to Dolce & Gabbana, passing through The Daily Edited (TDE), a brand that not only has its own box bag, but also allows you to customize it with our initials.
So, although there are for all tastes, if you are going to invest in one, remember: the smaller, singular and rigid it is, the better. Have we already said small? No one said that being trendy was comfortable.
