Manual of use of the garment of the season: the pink corduroy trousers

December 05, 2017

The looks of the 'street style' are elevating this piece to the category of essential and, although it may seem complicated, its possibilities are more than you can imagine
María José Pérez Méndez - @_MariaJosePerez - Corduroy is one of those materials that love or hate each other. It is not a fabric that, paradoxically, admits temperate postures; perhaps because of the texture contribution it brings to any look, perhaps because of its ability to awaken memories of childhood and adolescence. And yet, with all its seventies load and its retro reminiscences, it has become a space between the shoulder pads of the 80s and the casual (a little excessive) of the 2000 as fabric of the season in a very specific color and garment: trousers (corduroy) pink.

This, from the outset, the mere mention of the piece (pinkcorduroytrousers, all together and fast) can cause some snorting intrinsic complication. Spain. Pink. In a pair of pants Although there is some editor of Vogue.es that remembers this combination with the fondness of childhood memories (the warmth of the fabric for winter, the cliché of color), it is also aware that the translation to the here and now may be difficult beyond of its combination with white or black, especially when the tones leave the viral pink powder to tend to the salmon or directly to the fuchsia. Another coordinate to take into account? The high shot and the straight cut (never too tight to the leg, the skinny format at the moment is not contemplated) or flared.

The inescapable aesthetic weight (which was already intuited, for example in Nina Ricci or Tibi) makes it one of those garments that, seen once, all seen. But nothing is further from reality: the street style has been commissioned not only to deny the prejudice, but to offer a user manual that we have ordered from minor to major complication, so that everyone can move on this scale according to the audacity that have in the body that day.

Grade number 1: with basic

It is the most obvious option that will come to mind, but this does not mean that we should neglect it. This is where most importance comes from those turns that attract a magnet and contribute that I do not know what different: opt for a sleeveless shirt instead of a classic short sleeve; choose booties that are almost hidden and, finally, add even more texture thanks to backpacks and tweed bags.

Grade number 2: with fluffy sweater and arty earrings

The fact that corduroy appears (usually) in small lines and has a rough and soft appearance makes any fabric that comes out of simple cotton creates, logically, a texture game that adds dimension. However, this contrast can be further enhanced thanks to the thick stitch and wool that weave sweaters that seem like the epitome of winter. If, in addition, the top includes details such as chimney necks or strips that move it away from the traditional wardrobe background while approaching the sophisticated (thanks, also, to special slopes) the effect will be enhanced.

Grade number 3: with a blazer (unstructured)

Combining a corduroy pants with a jacket is not a strange gesture at all. In fact, one of the great proposals of the season is to reinterpret the two pieces tending well to the spirit of the late 70s, or to the pure and hard masculine vocation; Prada, Marc Jacobs or Ermanno Scervino have the tests. However, another more accessible option (as less aesthetic commitment) is to choose a blazer that is already in the closet and attach it to the pants. The destructuring of the pattern adds points, but anyone can use it to create a new office look, very new: it will be the rest of the complements that finish marking the general tone and leave no doubt that their natural habitat are work.

Grade number 4: with a striped shirt

Yes, it's just a shirt and that could put this combo higher up the scale ... If it were not for the pattern and the mix of colors. If the pink corduroy is already striking, joining it to a multicolored print guarantees as many looks as a retro spirit (especially if the set is closed by a pair of heels). The key to make it work? Try to match any of the t-shirt or jersey tones with the trousers.

Grade number 5: colored staircase (with street style accessories)

The last level is reserved for those who want to try this trend next to the full format look dressed with striking viral meat accessories. Giovanna Battaglia belongs to that lineage of Italians who knows herself well enough to be able to undertake all the aesthetic risks she wants and come out unscathed, that's why she had to be the one to pair the fuchsia corduroy pants (nothing from the previous soft pink) with a less saturated shirt, white sneakers, strass earrings, heart-shaped sunglasses and necklace inspired by a rosary.
